Assessment of agricultural drought in Morocco based on a composite of the Vegetation Health Index (VHI) and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI)

چکیده

According to IPCC, Morocco is a highly vulnerable country extreme climate events, especially droughts; this will affect different socioeconomic sectors, mainly the agriculture sector. Droughts are controlled by variability of precipitation and evapotranspiration but also not neglecting effect land surface conditions such as temperature. In present study, remote sense observations MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) CMSAF Land Surface Temperature (LST) were used for calculating Health (VHI). The main advantage sensing products that they reasonably efficient in terms temporal spatial coverage, useful monitoring assessment drought near real-time. Furthermore, ERA5 Reanalysis-based SPEI calculated. goal study assess patterns drought, offers composite VHI obtained plotting maps graphs show monthly annual period 2000–2015 over whole Morocco. This can be real-time warning system changing climate.

Assessing the climate change effects on Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), case study: Latian dam

Studying climate change and its effect on the intensity and frequency of drought can help the proper use of water resources and adaptation to the destructive effects of the drought phenomenon in the future decades. In recent decades, rising global temperatures have disturbed the planetchr('39')s climate balance and caused widespread climate change in most parts of the world. This research trie...

drought monitoring based on standardized precipitation evaoptranspiration index (spei) under the effect of climate change

introduction: drought is a natural and recurrent feature of climate. the characterizations of it may change under the effect of climate change in future periods. during the last few decades a number of different indices have been developed to quantify drought probabilities. droughts are caused by disruptions to an expected precipitation pattern and can be intensified by unusually high temperatu...

A Multiscalar Drought Index Sensitive to Global Warming: The Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index

The authors propose a new climatic drought index: the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI). The SPEI is based on precipitation and temperature data, and it has the advantage of combining multiscalar character with the capacity to include the effects of temperature variability on drought assessment. The procedure to calculate the index is detailed and involves a climatic wa...

Assessment of Drought Impact on Main Cereal Crops Using a Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index in Liaoning Province, China

Global warming has resulted in increasingly frequent and severe drought and/or precipitation events. Severe drought limits crop water availability and impacts agricultural productivity and socioeconomic development. To quantify drought-induced yield loss during the main crop stages in Liaoning province, China, aspects of drought episodes (magnitude, duration, and frequency) were investigated du...
